A Whiteparish local history page from younsmere-frustfield.org.uk
The layout of the parish now follows the lines of the A27 and A36 roads, masking the early settlement structure. This page explores the way the early settlements were connected and gives links to details of each settlement. For ease of access, modern names are shown alongside. The history of the use of the names Abbotstone and Titchborne, and Abbotstone House, is relatively complex. Blaxwell and Sansoms farms have been added to this page because of their long standing, although they are not settlements in the strict sense of the word.

The dates listed are the earliest known references - revisit them all to confirm
| Abbotstone | 1316 in Nomina Villarum. Later renamed as Titchborne in about 1560 |
| Alderstone | 1086 in DB. The core of Whiteparish with the church and vicarage, the land to the south of The Street and both sides of Bunkers Hill. Original manorial centre at Alderstone Farm. |
| Blaxwell | 1242. A small manor under Whelpley Tithing, divided into five parts after 1622. |
| Brickworth | Early 14th century |
| Cowesfield | 1068 in Domesday Book. An area containing three manors, Cowesfield Esturmy, Cowesfield Spilman (later Testwood) and Cowesfield Louveras, more recently known as Cowesfield Green and Cowesfield Gate and in recent modern times simply as Cowesfield. The modern area doesn't follow earlier manor boundaries: Cowesfield includes half of the original Alderstone manor, and Whiteparish village includes a large part of Cowesfield Esturmy manor. Cowesfield Gate is part of the original Alderstone Manor, so was not historically part of Cowesfield at all. |
| Cowesfield Esturmy | 1086 in DB. Known as Cowesfield Green since before 1773. |
| Cowesfield Gate | A settlement that grew up in Alderstone manor after 1756 when the turnpike road was made. On the A27 near the eastern boundary of the parish. The gate itself prevented stock in Cowesfield Wood straying into that part of Alderstone. Not historically part of Cowesfield. |
| Cowesfield Green | The green associated with Cowesfield Esturmy and Cowesfield Spilman and a name used less since the year (approx 2000), when new signs were erected at the bottom of Romsey Road bearing the name "Cowesfield" |
| Cowesfield Spilman | 1086 in DB. Near Testwood Cottages, 400m east of Cowesfield Green |
| Cowesfield Louveras | 1166. Near the present Rowden's Farm, east of Cowesfield Green |
| Frustfield | 943. The Hundred name, also used in Domesday Book to describe land within Alderstone, Blaxwell, Whelpley, Moor and Abbotstone manors. A Hundred is an administrative area, forerunner of the civil parish, in this case containing all of modern Whiteparish (including Cowesfield) plus parts of Redlynch, of Downton and of the New Forest and all of Landford. |
| Harestock | First record claimed as 1576 |
| Moore | 1086 in DB probable |
| Newton | 1289 |
| Sansoms | 1493 |
| Titchborne | Previously called Abbotstone 1316, renamed to Titchborne about 1560 |
| Whelpley | 1086 in DB |
| Whiteparish village | 1086 in DB. The core of the village was Alderstone Manor, renamed to Whiteparish around 1278 |
